Sierra de Hornachos and Matachel Valley
SPA
BADAJOZ

Sierra Grande de Hornachos is one of the mountains with the greatest biodiversity in the province of Badajoz. This one, with the pastures that surround it and the Matachel Valley, is a privileged place to watch the three great eagles of the Iberian Peninsula. On our route we’ll visit a part of the mountains where, in addition to observing the pairs of golden eagles and partridge eagles, it’s easy to see species of great interest such as black wheatear, blue rock-thrush, rock bunting, among others. We’ll also visit an area of the Matachel River where the Spanish imperial eagle feeds and also species breed such as western marsh-harrier, purple heron or red-billed chough, in addition to be able to watch many other species of scrub birds, waterbirds or riverside forest birds.
