An important wetland in Esparragalejo and the magnificient dehesa of the village will allow you to enjoy Extremadura's landscape and the bird species that inhabit it. In addition, in the Canchales reservoir, Zone of Special Protection of Birds (SPA) and Internationally Important Wetland, we can watch a wide diversity of bird species own of wetlands, and also of its surroundings, that are different depending on the time of the year.

 

In winter, the concentration of more than 4000 common cranes, 400 goose and more than 10000 waterfowl is amazing. In the postnuptial passage (August-September), there is a great pass of waders in both wetlands.

SPECIES OF INTEREST

Resident species

Blach-shouldered kite, Western marsh harrier, common buzzard, penduline tit, eurasian spoonbill, little bustard, stone-curlew, little owl, rock sparrow and Spanish sparrow. 

Winter species

Commom crane, greylag goose, euroasian wigeon, Northern pintail, common teal, common shelduck, hen harrier, short-eared owl, osprey, peregrine falcon and merlin.

Summer species

Gull-billed tern, collared pratincole, little tern, european bee-eater, black kite, booted eagle, montagu's harrier, european turtle dove, red-necked nightjar and glossy ibis.

Migrant species

Turnstone, curlew sandpiper, temminck's stint, wood sandpiper, black tern, greater famingo, caspian tern, audouin's gull, yellow wagtail, whinchat, northern wheatear, pied flycatcher, spotted flycatcher, etc.
